Why are Indian Government Employees Frustrated?

Government jobs are the most demanding jobs in India because of their stable salary and job security, but why are Indian government employees frustrated? It is because the job or working environment does not match their expectations. Everyone wants a government job after their graduation as they know the key features that the government job provides.

The most frustrated employees are the ones who are new or intermediate working under the seniors as they have to listen and follow the orders of their seniors.

There are several reasons that frustrates the Indian government employees, and some reasons even leads to clashes between the staffs and some of the main reasons for this frustration are:

Unavailability of Resources

It’s a thing that people believe that the Indian government employees are lazy and rude. Some of them are hardworking and give their 100% to perform their task but there are major challenges while doing the task like unavailability of resources or no proper management, because of this the employees have to do their job with limited resources which is very time-consuming and frustrating.

For example, You are assigned to fill out online forms for people who are coming to register their name for a certain government scheme but you are provided with an old PC with no proper internet connection and now you have to do registrations for more than 20 people in the line but you are facing technical issues to fill the form and people are shouting to hurry which is very frustrating and irritating for a government employee.

Delegation of Work without the Employees Consent

If you are new or a junior, then you can’t say no to your seniors; you have to do your work as well as of seniors who delegate their work to the other employees even if they don’t want to do it. Some so-called seniors don’t do their work properly, and others have to step up to do their part of the work, or otherwise the whole system will collapse. These seniors who have higher authority easily delegate their work as the employees at lower levels can’t say anything to them.

Sometimes unavailability of employees for certain roles and tasks is also an issue and the current staff also has to take responsibility for these tasks.

No Recognition

No matter how disciplined or hard-working you are you will not get the recognition you deserve. People at higher authorities take credit for everything and will hardly give any credit to the juniors. The employees are not recognized by the seniors which demotivates them from doing any work efficiently and effectively.

Promotions are also based on seniority and not based on performance-based aspects which also makes the employees less effective in their work.

Caste System Clashes

Caste plays an important role in the selection process for government jobs. People from a reserved category or certain caste can be selected for the top position even if their performance is average or below average because the government gives priority to them and several seats are reserved for certain castes.

Getting a government job is not that easy for people who are not from a special or reserved caste. People have to clear very difficult exams to qualify for their dream job but when only a few numbers of students are selected for the job.

According to Borthakursiasacademy, almost 13 lakh students applied for UPSC prelims in 2023, and out of these only 14,624 students had qualified for the mains examination, and the pass percentage for the mains examination was only 0.11%.

Because of this tough competition candidates who wanted group A jobs settled down for group B jobs or even for group C or D jobs. But when they see people who qualified for higher positions than them because of their caste, this creates frustration and demotivates the employees.

Financial Burden and Family Pressure

The candidates choose the government job because of its features and reputation, they don’t bother about their interests or if they like the job as they only focus on getting the best possible job to get public recognition and for the extra incentives.

They ignore their choice and interest in getting a government job and later finds it difficult to carry on with the job as they have no interest or will to do the job.

Most of the students and candidates pursue government jobs even if their interest is in a different field just because of family pressure or other financial problems. This is the main reason that government employees are frustrated with their jobs.

These are some reasons that converts a hard-working government employee into a hardly working employee.


Everyone expects that after getting a government job they can easily earn a monthly income by doing a small amount of work but it’s not the truth. Hard work and consistency are required for any kind of work and the same goes for government employment. Everything has two sides, and everyone has to deal with it.
